    club dues

i dont know if this would be proper on here or not but here it goes. i realize some clubs pay dues up front and some pay each week. my question is, how much does everyones dues run for the year.we have been using the same prices for atleast 10 years now and i know the old prices aint cutting it and im trying to find that happy medium for dues. i apoligize if this is an improper question for this forum.

    Hi Aaron,

It's not an improper question for the forums. It has been asked many times before. Try doing a search for Dues and you will see many results where people have posted how they handle it, upfront, weekly, even how much. So browse those threads and see if it answers you questions, or helps you.

    Re: club dues

Our church chooses to collect fees up front in the form of a "registration fee" of $30 for the first child and $25 for each additional child.  We charge separately for books, uniforms and book bags based on Awana catalog prices + 10% for shipping, rounded off to the nearest whole dollar.

Even at these amounts, the actual costs are not covered and the church picks up the difference in order to not deter people from coming due to high costs.

    Re: club dues

We're at $30 a year per Clubber (or $1 per week), plus books and uniforms.

While I'm not sure what the formula is for them, and can't remember the break down at the moment (I just remember it's different per age group, so I'm sure it's based on fluctuation of catalog prices...hey, I barely remember yesterday, so I'm glad to even remember this much!)....but for my Spark this year, I paid $20 for vest and book.

    Re: club dues

Something that we have started doing at out church is a penny contest.  We have VBS every summer.  During VBS we ask all the kids to bring in their pennies and we keep them seperated boys and girls.  It is a contest to see whether the girls or the boys win.  This past summer the girls won so our pastor spray painted his hair pink for the closing on Friday.  We have been collecting about $500.00 dollars worth of pennies(50,000 pennies).  We have an average attendance for VBS of about 80-90 children.  We then use this money to help fund our Awana ministy.  We do charge $10.00 dollars for Awana uniforms (T-shirts) and the church supplies the clubbers with books (from the penny drive).  We also have a jar for any clubber who wants to bring money to help.  They usually put in some change and it helps out some and also give the clubber an oppurtunity to learn to tithe.  Hope this helps!

    Re: club dues

Our church was planted and first started Awana two months later back in 2000.  That year they charged a flat registration fee of about $20 each, plus they charged for the book and uniform, plus they collected dues.  They had no budget!  The church also received generous donations of leftover supplies from a church that discontinued their program.

The next year and thereafter and still currently, they charge 50cents per week, and the cost of book and uniform.  The church decided to prioritize the children's ministry as a foundation principle of the new church, and so annually set aside a nice operating budget.  The new financial secretary did comment to me this fall that Awana, despite it's budgeted amount, still seems to be close to self sustaining.  I had never looked at the numbers...

We charge leaders a one-time leader fee of $20 when they first start serving in our church.  With that we let them borrow the uniform they need that year, and then they turn it in at the end of the year.  That way we can assign them to a different club the next year and not have to worry about what shirt they have, (we follow the polo color suggestions in the catalog.)  We just issue them the appropriate shirt.  The first year we did this the outlay was costly, but it's leveled out and we only had to order about 5 leaders shirts and we added 8 new leaders.

This year, also, we decided to reach out to our single Mom's and we waive the dues for their children.

    Hi Aaron

We charge a registration fee of $20 for the first one and $15 for additional clubbers in the same family. They pay for their uniform we as a club pick up everything else. Our club pretty much sustains its self the church picks up my first order up to a certain amount and also pays the yearly fee after that i am on my own so to speak.

    Re: club dues

We have a small budget for supplies but not enough to cover all clubber supplies.  The clubbers pay 50 cents a week dues that goes to pay for store.   They can pay weekly or all at once.  We have several parents that prefer to write a check for the dues for the year so they dont have to remember each week.   They have to buy their books and uniforms.  Cubbies and Sparks get a book bag when they receive their first book.  I think Cubbies gets one each year if they need it.  Sparks, this year since i know they gave everyone new bags last year, only new clubbers receive a bag.  In all, clubbers pay $20 that covers dues for the year and book and uniform.  If they cant pay, we have church members who have donated money to sponsor a child.

    Re: club dues

We upped our dues to 50 cents from 25 cents 2 years ago.

Last year we gave the parents the option to pay $18 for the year or pay 50 cents each week. About a quarter of our clubbers paid for the year and the parents seemed to like doing it that way (no digging for quarters each week).

    Re: club dues

Paying Dues up front or in advance saves time and record-keeping resources for a club, especially if you are short handed. We charged $15/yr or $.50/wk. They save $ if paid in advance. However, as much as it is encouraged, we  will not turn away any clubber who cannot do either format of dues! If we did, it would be counter productive to outreach we do in Awana...

We also have a sponsorhsip program where people can sponsor less fortunate clubbers for the basic expenses of uniform and books only...  this is screened for legitimate purposes so no one takes advantage of this program. Never ha an issue or a clubber who did not get sponsored so far.

    Re: club dues

We charge .25 per week or 7.00 per year. Almost all of our parents pay up front. Parents are then responsible for the book and uniform. We charge the catalog cost plus about 5% for shipping, etc. then round to the nearest dollar. The club picks up the costs of awards, badges, jewels, etc. But if a replacement is needed, they must be purchased. We had a lot of "lost" badges & crowns so we decided that we would charge for them to help them learn some responsibility for their belongings.

    Hope this is helpful.
