    Re: Puggles Prayer Requests

So, I'll start.  I found out today that there is a slim chance of us being able to start Puggles this year.  Of course, everyone knows how the economy is right now.  When money gets tight, people stop giving to the church.  Please pray that we will be able to bring Puggles about and that we will have leaders and L.I.T.s for it.  Thanks!

    Re: Puggles Prayer Requests

Praise the Lord for our new Puggles club at KBC, and our new husband/wife leaders that have stepped up to the plate, Mr. Jim and Miss Kimberly.   They attended training last Saturday!  This is thier first year as AWANA leaders.  We have only 2 children so far, but it is a startSmile  Pray for them to have excitment, and an effective misinistry to the little ones.  The most important time to lay the foundation that will last a lifetime!

    Re: Puggles Prayer Requests

I am a 1st year Awana leader and this is the 1st year my church will be doing Puggles. I am very excited about what this club will hopefully bring to my church and about leading it!!  Please pray that having the program will encourge more parents to stay and attend the Sunday Night Service and that my Puggles will have a fun year learning about God! Big Smile

    Re: Puggles Prayer Requests

I got the word yesterday that we will not be starting Puggles.  There is not enough leadership and funds are tight as well.  We do not have enough leadership for the clubs we already have.  It's sad and I was hoping it would start. Sad

    Re: Puggles Prayer Requests

Thanks, Jodi.  If it were me, I would go ahead and start Puggles, but I don't know if I am a person of faith or stupidity!  I understand that we are having great difficulty in getting workers for Awana and S.S.  It's a bigger problem than it has been in the past.  You don't want to twist people's arms to serve, you know, but sometimes you'd like to whack them in the head!  How can there be so many adults and so little help?  It truly baffles me!

    Re: Puggles Prayer Requests

journeyon.... we are having the same problem at our church. Attendance is up in church, SS and our Awana program, yet leadership is dwindling in SS and Awana. Like you, I just don't understand how this can be! How can people NOT want to serve?! Everyone seems to agree how important SS and Awana are... but very few want to step up and take responsibility for helping! Seems like those that are helping have to do it all - teach SS and Awana! There should be more than enough people to share the load... where are they?!

Maybe we should emphasize that they more adults we have, the less work it is for all of us!

    Re: Puggles Prayer Requests

that is sad.  we are short on leaders too, but I think part of the problem may be that people are scared to put in that much time and commitment into something they are not sure they will be good at.  also, i think part of it is people putting too may other things(dance/sports/etc.) before God(AWANA).  while we are short on AWANA leaders, i think most people in our church do serve somewhere, shockingly there are other ministries in the church.  we do have a few more leaders than we did a few years ago, but we coul still use more due to growth.  i read somewhere that something like 80% of the people who do not volunteer would volunteer if they were asked.  our hold chjildren's ministry director gave us all these books about how to recruit workers, and it said many people respond better to a personal invitation to serve than they do to a public announcement in the service or newsletter.  Another thing we did, first in my ABF class, then the women's ministry offered this to anyone who wanted to take it is we cmpleted a study using this book by Dan and Kati Fortune called  Discover Your God Given Gifts.  It has these quizzes that help you determine where you be best suited to serve based on your likes and dislikes which ties in with what you are good at. if your church has ABF or small groups, maybe you could encourage them to look complete it then give you the results. you could use them to determine who to personnally invite to serve in AWANA.  hope this helps, and i know its a bit late so will probably be more useful as prep work for getting more adults for next year.

    Re: Puggles Prayer Requests

Something I have done is to ask people to visit club for an evening or 2 to see if they like it. This has helped sometimes
