that is sad. we are short on leaders too, but I think part of the problem may be that people are scared to put in that much time and commitment into something they are not sure they will be good at. also, i think part of it is people putting too may other things(dance/sports/etc.) before God(AWANA). while we are short on AWANA leaders, i think most people in our church do serve somewhere, shockingly there are other ministries in the church. we do have a few more leaders than we did a few years ago, but we coul still use more due to growth. i read somewhere that something like 80% of the people who do not volunteer would volunteer if they were asked. our hold chjildren's ministry director gave us all these books about how to recruit workers, and it said many people respond better to a personal invitation to serve than they do to a public announcement in the service or newsletter. Another thing we did, first in my ABF class, then the women's ministry offered this to anyone who wanted to take it is we cmpleted a study using this book by Dan and Kati Fortune called Discover Your God Given Gifts. It has these quizzes that help you determine where you be best suited to serve based on your likes and dislikes which ties in with what you are good at. if your church has ABF or small groups, maybe you could encourage them to look complete it then give you the results. you could use them to determine who to personnally invite to serve in AWANA. hope this helps, and i know its a bit late so will probably be more useful as prep work for getting more adults for next year.
