PUGGLES is a Pre-Cubbies (Age 2) Club... not Day Care! It accommodates teaching and introducing children younger than Cubbies to the Gospel. How many day cares do that??

    Re: Puggles Age cut-off

While our Awana Club does not do Puggles, I can give this suggestion....

Our Club sticks to school grade demarcation lines.  EG: Sparks is for K thru 2nd grade, only.  So we use the school-entry cut off as a guideline for Cubbies.  Here, that's September 1st of the school year.  If you're 5 by that date, then you may start Kindergarten.  If you're not 5 by that date, then you wait for the following year.

Back that up by two years, and you have your entry points for Cubbies.  If they are 3 by the school cut-off date, then they can start Cubbies.  I have 4 new Cubbies this year that are 4 this year, so will only do one year in Cubbies before moving on to Sparks next year with their age group.

I think that same logic can be applied to Puggles.  Back it up by another year or two (if you're running a 1 or 2 year Puggles program), and you have your entry-ages for the kiddos.

This keeps them on target for starting Sparks at Kindergarten, and not putting leaders in a position of scrambling for material when they've already done all the main curriculum because they've been in that part of the program beyond it's prescribed time frame.

    I hope this helps!!!!

    Re: Puggles Age cut-off

I'm a little late in replying to this, but here it goes...........................

Our cut-off for Cubbies is they must be 3 by September 30th.  We have not had a cut-off for Sparks, but because of homeschoolers putting their children in whatever grade they please, and then changing it, we are going to have that same cut-off for Sparks next year.  (I'm not anti-homeschooling, I homeschool my children.  However, this has been a HUGE problem this year.)  Because of the Cubbies cut-off date, no child can enter cubbies after that, regardless of when they turn 3.  They have to wait until the next year.

With Puggles, they enter it after they turn 2 - no matter when during the year that is.  They are not allowed to come before 2, and some are there for awhile after they turn 3 because they missed the cut-off for Cubbies.

    Re: Puggles Age cut-off

when does your club year start?  as far as I have seen, most clubs seem to start right aound the beginning of the school year, usually somewhere in August to early September. for the States.  from reading your post, its sounds like kids would be starting in one group, then moving up when they have a birthday. or are you starting later say october 1st?

    Re: Puggles Age cut-off

we dont have puggles yet, but i can see the Sept 30.  We go by the school cutoff for ages.  In Arkansas they have to be 5 by Sept 1 (i think).  Our sunday school year begins in September also so kids have to be the right age by Sept 1.

    Re: Puggles Age cut-off

Our club year begins mid-September.  The reason they use Sept. 30th, is because it is the date that church's school uses for kindergarten.  (As mandated by the state, I believe.)  If they don't make the cut-off, then they stay in Cubbies for that year.  Nobody except for 2 year olds going into Puggles move during the year.

    Re: Puggles Age cut-off

Aah.  that makes sense, at first I thought you meant that kids in puggles could move up to cubbies when they had a birthday if their birthday was before September 30.  I sometimes mix up what I'm reading and the way things ae done here.  Thats why I asked when the year started.  We wait until the kids are settled into their school routines, which starts mid-August, then Awana starts the first wednesday after Labor day.  Our state cutoff for kindergarten is five by September 1.

    Re: Puggles Age cut-off

We are now about half way through our Awana year and I wanted to update on how the younger kids are doing... We took kids that were 18 months old by August. All the kids are really doing well! They all participate and know our routine now. They sing the songs and are learning the colors. The only one that is having any trouble is my son who is the youngest in the group and has some speech delays and sensory issues... however, even though he isn't participating completely like the other kids, it is helping him SOOOO much. He has started talking better and doing things he wasn't before we started. Smile

Over all I am hoping to keep the age cut off the same for next year.
